Report. You’ll be checking the archives of hound trailing to see if you can find as prolific winner of one trail as Jenny’s Delight,the one trail being the senior trail at Ambleside sports and Rydal hound show, one and the same although different trail dates., four at one and three at the other. a credit to the Little family of Carlisle  ( Anne told me to mention this , like a terrier that’s got od., I’ll provide the trumpet, you can blow it, appropriate, as Jim was a player in a band. Oh bla =di- – oh -bla =da..

It is quite unique that the first three pups on Tuesday were the first three on Thursday in the same order and could it be Dash putting in a late challenge for the pup championship ( remember Tramore ), Jenny’s Oracle, the unplaced  favourite came on the senior start and in the last trail it was sweet harmony in the Holmes kennel as she kept both Jenny’s breeze and Overwater Jack at bay .

PS Remember Tramore ! In the 1979 season Birkby Lass  won the puppy championship with 21 wins , Tramore , whose first championship win was at Crosthwaite near Keswick on Aug  27th and finished the season with 17 wins in fourth.

Report. to comply with the latest slipping rule ,these trails were moved back and on a wet night it was just as well as visibility detereated rapidly and , although the first hounds to finish were visible , what about the last one to finish.

The seniors ,and ” Nimrod ” won cosily from New Agenda, whose first run in senior trail was encouraging and this hound could have a say in where the championship ends up ..

And in the pups Acorn notched another win for the evergreen Reggie   Smith and a close finish in the last saw Companion get the better of the Queen ( that’s a week in the tower) and ELO with Mr Bluesky in third..

Report. this easy win puts last season’s puppy champion right up with Crazy and Miterdale Shadow in the championship race  but don’t rule out the two kennel mates Aura and Major.

Acorn won easily and winning ,not out of turn, was Super Star for the Windermere kennel of Peter Green , who, incidentally lives on the finishing line of a trail held in Windermere in the 1950 ‘s and the winner ” Copperfield”

The restricted trail was a breeze for New Agenda , Queen ran   an excellent race in second ( considering Wendy’s away)

Report.: Observation, Fiona was starter and judge and a catcher.Bookies  runner and raffle organiser.no wonder she had a glowing face at the end of the day .

The seniors and a nail-biting finish between Silver Dusk  and Thorn Dancer,with the former winning by a head, the two championship contenders were soundly beaten back in fifth and seventh place. The senior maidens and four on the finish and the favourite Escape held on to beat Some Lad and the fast closing Foxparke Just Got It in third.

The puppy trail was a disappointment as only two completed the course. Somebody contacted the scout to ask a question, “couldn’t see a thing due to torrential rain” A mile away the “heavens had opened ” and in the words of  Dave Studhome ” Me car was floating through spatri”    Tilly Trotter and Kinniside Sam sorted it out and Tilly was no longer a non- winner and maiden. The pup maidens made a better job and not before time Dan got his head in front to beat Lillian . finally and in gloomy weather the veteran Aspire came from third to beat Tommy’s and Ladybird.. we will find out how the show went when we see the rest of the committee..

Reports . Only 36 runners for the four trail meet at Dearham but there were some extremely close finishes,including Shotgun who outgunned Lillian in a tight finish, mysterious who short -headed Aspire in the vets. Crazy  won the seniors coming away from Babycham and, her rival in the Championship ,back in sixth place in between hands Captain Jack ( Sparra ) was a welcome winner for Tanya Satterthwaite.

At halfway in the senior trail the hounds cross a minor but busy road and was scouted by the appointed scouts . when the hounds crossed the road the encroaching spectators were politely asked  ” Give them room lads ” but as usual they took no heed and were practically stood on the trail. Solution,without taking away the pleasure of watching a trail ,” outside” and as we cannot stop people “GOING OUT”. .if it continues and upsets the hounds then the answer will be – All to pay everytime you enter the gate .

Report. .There cannot be any better views in the whole of the UK as you descend down Birker Fell /moor to High Ground , the venue for tonights action. The senior trail was watched from the fell top ,hence the time to view., and what did we see ,no more had we been on the field. Miterdale steel had every chance of beating the invincible Huntsmans’/Jenny  kennel but ran wide on the finish gifting the trail to “second string” Huntsman’s Novice and last seasons champion Jenny’s Aura.. The rest of the evening was dominated by “locals” Tom Poss’s  Dragonfly, Dave Crowe’s  Overwater Jack and Shirley Crossland’s Reebok..

A car load of visitors turned up , wine , cans, eats , Father, mother , Sons and Daughters,friends., Uncle Tom Cobbly and all. What did they back , the last three winners, insider dealing I suspect.

Report . When the trail reaches the maximum time allowed the timekeeper shall declare the trail void , immaterial of how far they have got  to run . The government scheme allowing land to return to nature provided a stern task f or the hounds  and is depicted in the overall  times of the trails.,  Easily rectified cut across the middle of the reservoir. LOL.

The seniors and a tight finish between  ” Nimrod and Persian Bay, the water jump , an expanse of water that appears in the rainy season just short of the tape played a part in the result  ,,a clean jump wins the race..

And then there was “Brook” aka “Knob ‘ed  !!. he jumped it and then stopped to shake himself dry, he shook himself over the line , a nose in front of Sultan.

Only five pups and three of them were non – winners, it was just over the 25 minute mark when Huntsman and Jenny’s crossed the line, unfortunate but ——-.

No such problem in the non -winners , with an extra 5 minutes to spare, Muse and Galway finished well clear of the rest  and a family cheer for the veteran  Spring  dazzler after Huntsman’s jenny had relinquished a good lead and only managed to finish fourth

Report .Lorton hound show , one of the few venues where the shorter trails are run first or to put it another way a  five trail meeting  where the public watch the first four trails in a two hour session and then, rather than wait for the seniors , go home.. Well, Babylon made it a double on the day for Ed and lisa, can’t report on the race because like a lot of others we had  gone home.

The day got underway with the pups and Acorn  surrendered a winning lead allowing Opal to get up on the line to force a dead – Heat, Mick from Kinniside was a close third.

following on were the pup maidens and finally Eden Raya  got her head in front on the line ,, this time it was Dan of Kinniside was second . The maidens came into the last field ,well bunched, some went left , some right, some circled, there  was plenty of post-mortems but nobody had really died.

Onto the open maidens , but as the pups had run in their own race it was  a short senior maiden and once again many hounds had a winning chance entering the last field, Zola ( shoeless ) held on to beat Super star and blue bolt.

The restricted trail was disappointing when most of the runners returned to the start after ten minutes but five made it including Foxparke Jewel who was one of fifteen runners for the Napiers.
