Report:

I wasn’t going to file a report but : As you are aware a member over the last few weeks has been canvassing trailers as to would it be beneficial to run all the trails on one rag with an hour  break in between the first two trails. Because of lack of support the motion was withdrawn.

But the shepherds meet went ahead as the member requested, the only difference being , because of the inclement weather, the pup trail went on ‘entries closed’.

As you can see from the times there was practically three senior trails but I think the time for the trail should have been a little shorter. Anyway, the trails were monitored and apart from the odd mistake the hounds shaped well.

Now here is a point because there was an hour between trails – three of us took the advantage of plate of tatie-pot followed by sticky toffee at a reasonable priced £7 and some others took to drink. This would not have been possible if we ‘d only had half an hour.

Therefore supporting the theory that it may work- the advantages being – only two trailers- one lot of mixture and less time ‘hanging about’. the disadvantages being that ,in theory, a shortened senior trail, pups on a dead rag, although you could swop the trails around and run the pups first. also hounds are bred to ‘stay’ but then why do the majority of hounds run in the short trails? Just a thought to dwell on over the winter months.

Oh! the trails ,well! there wasn’t a bookie but rumour had it that there might have been a bit of exchange going on, anyway the upshot was if there was any it was for the first two in the seniors, and that was the end of that !

Dawn led all the way and won very easily , Tommy’s Legacy completed a double for the Bassenthwaite kennel beating ‘Alfie’ by a couple of lengths and Lone Rebel came on his own in the pup/old dog trail.

A final note this was Jimmy and Normans local trail , on the 7th of November.

Missed a bit = scouted the road for the last trail and opened a gate at right angle to the trail, one hound came to go through the gap, suddenly turned sharp right, and to our astonishment jumped the gate, down a banking ,turned around jumped the gate again and then crossed the road. We might as well left it shut!

Report.

The final days trailing at its traditional place -Millstone Moor – provided plenty of exciting finishes and provided a conclusion to the 2015 puppy championship. The conclusion was that- nowt changed , Persian Bay and Huntsman’s Kraka , joint leaders, sat it out , inviting Daisy Dream and Arizona to catch them up. Win they didn’t , despite some divine intervention , ‘holy water” of all things’ courtesy of ‘ Father Palmer’. Bracelet took the puppy trail getting the better of Billy Bowe and Ben 10, Arizona could only manage fifth and ‘Daisy’ was unplaced.

The afternoon got of to a good start when Tan Ted  reversed Monday’s placings with Overwater Bessy. This win took him to joint second in the championship with Bessie’s kennel mate ‘Arnie’. Perhaps the difference in the two trails was that the hounds finished with the same distance between them .But on Monday Bessy was nearest the judge , Saturday-  they swopped over.

Maybe I might or maybe I wont, well! she did , much to the delight of veteran trainer Victor Brownlee.

Winning a maiden trail on final day’s trailing for a trainer that has won twelve Championships is testament to patience or perhaps doggedness . Finishing second was the Napier’s Foxparke So Be It and with it the senior maiden championship.

The puppy maiden trail and here the puppy maiden championship was between Persian Prince and Eden Rossi , three points between at the start and at the finish three places , another tie. Persian Prince had a battle with Kaiser Sosa, who’s  owners had travelled from London to see their hound finish second after taking up the lead on the uphill finish, giving it back then going to the front only to be thwarted on the line .

Finally,.the last trail of the 2015 campaign and Da Look, minus his pot leg and already crowned veteran champion, had no trouble in beating Tiagress.

Well! that’s the final report for 2015 . I hope you have enjoyed this first attempt at putting the trails into your living room.

The videos- They will get better with practice , the website will be re-aligned for next season to provide a better and more informative outlet for our sport.

And the ‘blog’ a light-hearted look , not to be taken to seriously, well it isn’t by most of you but there are some ——— come on ,lighten up you’re a long time gone.

The provider of this website is Baz, if you like it ! and if you don’t it was Lord Bragg! ( another joke or?).

OR         1 Da Look 2 Night Shadow 3 Ran only two finished.Time 19.00  Jimmy Choo.

Report: The destiny of the puppy championship is going ‘down to the wire’ with the result of the final trail of the season at Millstone Moor on Saturday. On paper it looks like a tie between Persian Bay and Huntsman’s Kraka but  ‘what if’ and who knows are the questions. At Seaton today all four contenders met once again and once again all got beat This time by 8/1 outsider Bracelet ,who fairly flew up the long finish to win by ten yards , Daisy did best of the contenders ,finishing third after missing a golden opportunity  together with Huntsman’s Kraka at mist shrouded Grange yesterday.

The other two trails had a real feeling of ‘end of the season blues about them’ when only three ran in each and both had easy winners in Try Again and Da Look.

Grange in Borrowdale Wed Oct 28th>

The meeting was abandoned due to one of the trailers losing his bearings in the thick mist.

I am glad to report that he found his way back to the trail field none the worse for his experience.

Report. All eyes were on the pups as Arizona and ‘Kraka’ attempted to improve their standings in the pup championship. But it was to no avail because once again for the third time in as many weeks Persian Sky fairly romped up  the uphill finish to see off a persistent Billy Bowe with Bracelet back in third and the early leader Meadow Josie in fourth. the two contenders were sixth and seventh.

Overwater Bessy continued her good run with a head victory over Tan Ted who challenged all the way to the line; back in third was ‘Quiet’

In the final event Carrick held onto a slender lead over Celtic Ty

Report. Well ! the ball rolls on to Millstone Moor tomorrow as all three challengers for the puppy championship were beaten by Venus. Daisy Dream came closest with a gallant second beaten in the final strides after battling with Venus for most of the trail, Arizona was 50 yards back in fifth with Persian Bay well behind in sixth. That was the third trail in as many weeks at Kendal and to mark the consistency of the juniors, their times have been 15.36 :15.46;and 16.04.

Rounding up the other trails – Lady Bethan confirmed her superiority in the seniors with a couple of lengths victory over Razzle Dazzle who got the better of Canny Girl on the line.

Lady Anne beat her seniors with a win in the maidens by three lengths from Mr Dec and Highness held on to beat Carrick in the final race of the Westmorland area’s season.

Report.

Buttermere nestling under the watchful eye of Haystacks ,the dark topped mountain with rivulets of water cascading, like tears, through scree and bracken down its steep sides to the valley below. Arthur’s favourite mountain and you can understand why, mysterious ,dark ,foreboding,- right that’s enough of that-

The puppy championship took another twist when ‘ Kraka’ ,although she only had four opponents, had her  work cut out to win, after firstly Lone Rebel got into bracken trouble then she only got up in the last few strides to beat Persian Gold. This win puts her level at the top and the band rolls on to Kendal tomorrow.

Huntsman’s Kraka was one of the four favourites that duly obliged making it a punter’s day.

First up was Overwater Bessy who took advantage of Tan Teds reluctance to ‘go on’ when entering the final field but she still had to pull out ‘all the stops’ as Ted challenged all the way to the line , in fact some had thought he had prevailed but it was a length victory for ‘Bessie’.

In the senior maidens all thirteen runners at one stage or another had a chance . They chopped and changed all the way down the fell and in the end it was My Way (Frank) who nabbed Mickledore (another mountain) on the line , a popular win for Duncan and Amy.

And to finish the bookies rout in the last Bluebond ( minus Joe) fairly scooted up the finish to beat Persian Prince and Eden Rossi.

And the swimming competition held in the pool by the gate was won by a little girl who decided to swim with all her clothes on . Well, actually, the poor lass fell in headfirst.

And as we left the field the cameras turned up in readiness for a television drama and who was heading for make -up- watch this space all will be revealed.

Seniors 1 Try Again 2 Barton 3 Plan B . 5 Ran only 3 Finished. Time 26.49 ; Also Ran -Prudence -Blueboy.

Pups    1 Try Time 2 Daisy Dream 3 Billy Bowe 4 Huntsman’s Kraka 5 Arizona 6 Bracelet . 10 Ran Time 15 02.

Also Ran -Persian Bay- The Script-Ben 10 -Artist.

Open Maidens 1 DH Bluebond- Kaiser Sosa 3 Barncroft Return 4 Flashdance .5 Ran Time 16 45 Also Ran The Penny Arcade.

Report. As you can see the seniors and maidens are going through an end of season phase and all Try Again had to do was get round when his major opponent Prudence didn’t appear on the second half, taking nothing away from Barton but he was second again. And similarly in the last a definite feeling of ‘end of season blues’ but nevertheless an exiting finish and the judge couldn’t separate the first two with the favourite Flash dance ‘ stone last’.

But the pups that is a different tale with the championship wide open today’s event would be a crucial win for any of the four contenders and what happens? – in comes Try Time to upset the ‘applecart’ . Brother to both Persian Bay, Persian Sky and Billy Bowe, he won by the proverbial ‘mile’ and sets a conundrum for the final six trails.

Holding the key to the Puppy title are those that are out of the race- notably – Lone Rebel  – Persian Sky- Try Time- Billy Bowe.

What will run where? and more to the point what will win- it is quite possible that none of the contenders will win another trail.

An intriguing finale to the 2015 season.

OH! and by the way ‘ Daisy’ was a good second to Try Time and ‘Kraka’ back in fourth wasn’t a long way back . The problem the promoters have next week is today’s time 2 secs over the minimum time.

Ps . Try Time is also Daisy Dream’s Brother ( Just a friendly reminder from Ian)

Good luck!

Report. On a mild October day a Millstone Moor and a couple of close finishes an easy win for Persian Sky and local Flash Dance wins for the ex-mayor.

No Change in the puppy championship  when Persian Sky kept challenger Arizona at bay with a ten length victory supplementing Saturdays  win over the same course and running a sound race in third was Ben 10.

The days sport started with An excellent finish between ‘Ted’ and ‘Tone’ . Nip and tuck all way up the long finish and on the line Ted prevailed by a head, Quiet Linnet., who attracted some blower money was third.

The maiden trail and once more an exciting finish – flash dance got the result with a couple of lengths to spare over Foxparke Hurry on with Trooper Thorn close behind in third.

In the last and you could say ‘at last’ when Meadow Josie got her head in front on the line to beat Kaiser Sosa whom she battled with all the way up the hill

Report. The consensus of opinion was if Persian Bay won at Kendal to-day then the race for the title was over. But as the drama unfolded and the runners headed uphill to the finish it was Billy Bowe just heading Persian and Daisy Dream in third.

Billy ‘flew the gate’ and gained a yard, the second hound kept tabs on the leader, ‘Daisy wasn’t responding well to the whistles whether they be coming from top of the hill or the bottom.

Over the final wall and onto ‘thistle  finish’ and lo and behold Billy held the challenge of the second by two lengths. But what was second everybody to a man (except one)  had Billy leading Persian and Daisy all the way up the finish even over the line, until it dawned on them’ its Venus’ not ‘Persian’ .

Only the last month of the season and ‘ who knows the difference’ as one regular remarked ‘ tell ’em a mile off, they can’t tell ’em under their noses’. Perhaps it was the angle it’s not often you have a birds eye view ?.

Canny Girl was reported to have led for most of the senior trail but she couldn’t hold off course winner lady Bethan who won by a few lengths from Razzle Dazzle with ‘Canny’ a similar distance back in third and improving into fourth was Ladybird.

Just seven for the maidens and Yogi Bear beat Black Mist by five lengths with Full House a similar distance back in third.

It’s not often a kennel has two runners in a race , one first and the other last!

The open restricted and a close run race with Carrick getting the better of Barton ( second again) and Highness who was a close third and Jimmy ,who sat down again but still got fifth enduring the annoyance of his owner ,just because Ireland got beat LOL and only four veterans in the last where Tiagress finished alone and Cinnabar’ got  up’ on the line to finish second.

Report. MIssed the seniors but the senior maidens when they came onto the finish there were a number of hounds with a chance but engaging top gear and with the turbo on – Foxparke Turbo had too much speed for Flash Dance and So Be It.TBC.

The puppy trail and running together were the Championship contenders -Arizona- Huntsmans Kraka- Persian Sky- Lone Rebel. Daisy Dream had already won at the ‘Bower’, an exciting race in prospect and the supporters were not let down.

Against the odds the first to show before the uphill climb to the line was Try Time followed by Cracking On some five yards adrift was Arizona , then Persian Sky who it was reported had an altercation with a sheep and was bowled over. Arizona quickly took up the lead and went a couple of lengths clear, then ‘Crasking’  went on, but all the time making stealthy headway was ‘Persian’ and the faster finishing speed carried her to victory by three lengths with Arizona re-passing ‘cracking’ for second. Huntsman’s Kraka ran a sound race for the first time and made up a lot of ground on the finishing end.

In the puppy maidens the favourite  Bluebond  finished to strong for her rivals winning by 10 yards from Persian Prince and ‘Yankee Doodle’

As from now all Foxparkes will be addressed by their name and not ‘purple dog’. reason- every time I ask Nicola for identification she replies ‘purple yan’.

Report: Buttermere  once again and four trails with four different winners. The most significant being Huntsman’s Kraka- this was her first victory since Lowick show in early September and keeps her in touch in the race for puppy championship. In last nights trail she beat Lone Rebel who was appearing for the third consecutive day and appeared none the worse but he couldn’t peg back ‘Kraka’ who won by five yards. There were only six runners and the remaining four were not far away .

In the senior trail and Overwater Bessy stepped up a class and showed her rivals a clean pair of heels as she got the better of Tan Ted by a few lengths with Bedazzled just behind in third. Her only danger appeared to be the pup trailers waiting to split, because one was Emily -Bessies trainer.

The maidens and after Persian Prince had thrown away his winning lead it was the Ulverston hound Lady Anne that got her head in front and kept on resolutely to beat Meadow Josie by a length and in the last and turning Tuesday’s results around , Quiet Linnet won handily from Celtic Ty . On Tuesday Ty was sixth out of eight and ‘Linnet’ was unplaced., the next four were the same as Tuesday but in a different order.

Report. The puppy championship took another twist at Helton when Arizona came from fifth to take the honours by three lengths from Lone Rebel, last nights victor.

The win wasn’t without a slice or two of luck, Jazz Band ran off when in front and Persian Bay stumbled twice on the uphill climb but before that and controversially the incoming trailer didn’t come the usual way. On open countryside it is often the case  that the trailers don’t lay the trails foot for foot. The trailer came wider than normal -there shouldn’t have been a problem, the trail was down, it wasn’t difficult to negotiate the terrain, but true to fashion the pups wanted to go where they knew. Most of the hounds righted themselves but four hounds put themselves ‘out of the race’ Persian Sky was one as for the others ,well, speculation! , but it certainly had a bearing on the result ,but as they say’ that’s trailing.’

As for the last race I didn’t witness the start but on the finish four hounds were in with a shout and wining by three lengths was Cracking Gold from Eden Rocco, whom it might be said to be unlucky- watch the video and see him land on his ‘bits’ ouch!

Sorry missed two trails- The senior trail and it was course winner Two Tone who came with a few yards lead and maintained the lead to the line to beat Lady Bethan who, allegedly stumbled when challenging, I can say that Razzle Dazzle that finished fourth took a crashing fall at the last road, apart from the fact that the hounds had to contend with the Ullswater  and the E/E foxhounds , there wasn’t any hard luck stories.

The maiden trail and Black Mist led all the way down and up the finish only to be denied by the faster finishing Foxparke Yabadabadoo in the closing stages , close up in third was High Stile.
