Report.Buttermere in autumn, majestic and doing a fair trade in the lay by was the ice cream van ,better than the summer months.

The senior trail and nothing changed much from halfway where Try Again led from Dawn and Tommy’s Legacy as they approached the downhill section before the last field they had trouble finding the trod in the bracken, apparently the trailer had the same problem, nevertheless the kennelmates Dawn and Tommy’s sorted it out and came away to fight out the finish, the former winning by a couple of lengths.

A similar story in the maidens where again two hounds broke clear and My Way got the better of Out Of the Blue with Maybe back in third with the ticketing hounds close up.

The puppy trail and always to the fore was Lone Rebel and he easily recorded his twelfth victory at the expense of Marlou and it was no change in the last as the favourite Overwater Bessie led through the fell with Barton ,Jimmy Choo and Carrick, these four were clear of the rest and that’s how they finished.

As we left the field it was noticed that Ron had left his tea van in the field, obviously for Thursday’s trail. I hope nobody nicks it!

Report. Norman and Lynn Brown trained Persian Bay took a stranglehold on the puppy championship when she won her 18th trail of the season at Cunswick Fell. She beat most of the contenders for the title getting up to beat her siblings Billy Bowe and  Persian Sky by a couple of lengths with the remainder of the ticketing hounds close behind.
Lady Bethan took the senior trail with about five lengths to spare over Canny Girl who pipped Jazz Singer for second , finishing last was champion elect Prudence but she ran with a certain amount of apprehension having not finished in her previous three outings, could be different next week!
The maidens and the money was down for a Persian double and ‘Sun’ duly obliged with a ten length victory over veteran Tiagress ,these were clear of Yogi and a cheer for the fifth hound over the line ,after sitting down James Nicholas ( Sunday name) aka Jimmy Nik found enough energy to walk over the line to claim fifth place.
Just nine in the last and victory to John and Clare Crone with course winner Cartier over the ever present Barton.
The trails manager (Russ) said ‘ Now don’t forget to mention about the good trails and how we managed to get all the hounds onto the finish ‘ with reference to Mondays effort at  Applethwaite , Same mixture, same rags and contrary to the sceptics there was aniseed in the mixture. Thinking about it, as Chairman, Russ! your in charge of both venues.

Report.  Wasdale Show , friendly, homely and heaving with locals and visitors alike, hosting one of the hardest trails in the calendar , the toughest fell race , and a Mr Blobby who completed the fell race and para (whatever) who found the fastest descent.

The senior trail and if you weren’t aware of how many ran you would have thought there were at least a hundred as the crowd thronged on the finish to get  view of ‘Ranger’ winning by the proverbial mile with Bedazzled getting the better of ‘ Choice for second place and has tradition has it- the loudest applause for the last to finish. You might be surprised to know that the incoming trailer , Arthur Temple, was on time, despite being spotted sight seeing  above the show.

You couldn’t begrudge the Crowes a winner after some hard luck tales and Alfie came home in the senior maidens chased by a foxparke foursome interspersed by Lady Helen.

Only six pups and it was a facile victory for championship challenger Daisy Dream ,Marlou was a well beaten second with ‘Kraka third and to round up a pleasant days sport  was Dairy Thunder, he won as he liked with the Penrith pair ‘Rossi’ and Stroll On in second and third.

Report:  Dearham for the second visit in as many days and another twist in the puppy Championship with a return to form for Arizona, who last caught the judges eye at the same venue on the 29th of August. He held on by a length from the challenge of Tuesdays winner Silver Charm and the time- identical to Tuesday nights maiden winner Yabbadabbadoo.( a red -liner)

In the senior trail, and here an example of how things alter. In front at half way and courting a good lead was J LS and in last place some distance behind was Plan B.

Plan B finished fourth and J L S was unplaced to the Tuesday night’s runner -up Silver Spangle who held on for a win over Dawn and Izzabella or is it Issabella.

In the open restricted Barton showed in front and kept on stoutly to register another course win over a bunched field , Carrick getting second and an ever smiling Lisa with the third Cool Return.

Taking his place in the judges position was committee man Patrick Laidler, the  third  of the brothers  to judge this week. I hope he is as good as the other two or should I say ‘better’!

Correction; The  time for the OM on tues was 16.41 so the bit about hounds times being identical was a load of  b*******s . I couldn’t read my writing and what’s more neither could anybody else!

Report. Another’ Spanner’ in the puppy championship race when Jenny’s Delight confirmed form with Daisy  Dream ,almost a replica of last Wednesday’s trail at Low Place, both hounds showed together and Jenny’s edged to the front in the last 20 yards. Another contender for the title — Huntsman ‘s Kraka a close third.

At halfway in the seniors Try Again was giving it’ wigan’ but he had five hounds for company and two of these , Night Vision and Canny Girl ,  separated by a length were first and second and ‘Try Again back in third.

In the maidens Bluebond finished like ‘la’al Ratty’ with What Look aka (Tommy)about 20yards behind in second and Free Spirit similarly  in third..

Report.

Once again,   top of the table, Prudence dug her heels in and refused to pass some stock and was consequently ‘picked up’ . This opened up the race and taking full advantage were Another Bay and Silver Spangle who raced neck and neck to the tape. Another Bay pulled out that little extra to win by a length.

The pup trail and another ‘spanner in the works’ as Persian Bay couldn’t hold off the fast finish of Silver Charm with Delta Dawn back in third.

And the last race, and a one/two for the Napiers when Yabadabadoo bt Turbo or was it a one/two for the Farrens?, the favourite Flash Dance was a close third.

Report.

Well ! What can one say about the first two trails, theories abound, as to why they were too long and had trouble with the scent . All I can say is that the weather conditions for the laying of the senior trail were atrocious, the wet bracken in places was almost impenetrable and that both trailers were ‘out’ about one hour  50 mins apiece that equates to a 34 min trail. I have promoted and laid trails for 50 years and I haven’t got the answer so it’s interesting to hear other theories and of course the bull**** as well.

The senior trail was a two hound race concerning the two ‘rubies’. Huntsman’s Jewel (Ruby) and Canny Girl (Ruby). The former holding on for a length victory with Jenny’s Rose back in third.

All I can say about the maidens that it took the first hound 61 mins and  that was Miterdale Prim ( no truth in the rumour that the next Eskdale trail will be a long ‘un).

The four short trails , if you can call twenty minutes plus ,short seemed to run smoothly. There were the usual hard luck stories and no more than in the first when first Venus and Lone Rebel( wheelie) and then Billy Bowe and Jazz Band scaled when leading ,a case of father -in -law leading son -in law astray.

Now after crossing the line ,melee ruled, and a number of pups ,the winner included, ran around the back of the catchers, confusion arose and a number of hounds disappeared from view.  At first it was thought that Bracelet had prevailed but it transpired that in the confusion it had been Cracking On that had won followed by Eden Rossi ;and more than likely a cracking result for the layers.

The non-winners and an excellent win for the ‘Wha House’ kennel and the correct pronunciation of Eskdale – Eshdale Matilda holding on from Eden Rossi and the close -up Black-Eyed-Boy.

Riding on the crest of a wave are Jack and Simone with there early morning rooster.

He scooted up the last climb  to beat a fast finishing Overwater Bessie who got up on the line for second denying Blueboy, who settled for third with the other ticketing hounds close behind.

Only six in the last and these were strung out like Monday’s washing. Cinnabar took the honours over Colleen with Tiagress in third.

Sorry no videos- too wet- too windy-too far- too much . Toodelpip.

Report.

The senior starting end trailer found himself in a predicament that is all to familiar to laying a trail  in misty conditions and I can speak from experience . You basically know where you are but you cannot be certain how you got there and you are not sure which exact direction to carry on . So!, you wait for visibility to improve, it does , but only marginally but enough to find a way back. Now, the trail has been laid but you are 50 mins late ,you know you have been ‘wrong’ but is it enough to cancel the trail. Decision time and taking in all relative factors the Carlisle and Penrith Committee decided to cancel both senior trails.

In the interest of safety this was the correct decision whether you agree or not!

The visibility slightly improved for the shorter trails, although only to about 200 yards and this limited the viewing of the hounds to the start and half the finish.

Who did it help ? well! Jazz Band would have been happy with nil visibility but it didn’t matter as he came well clear and to a round of applause sauntered over the line and into his bait. Persian Prince led the remainder just in front of Cracking On. That was the pup maidens and it was a similar story in the junior trail where the favourite and course specialist Lone Rebel won by a similar margin from Daisy Dream with the other ticketing hounds close up,

The third trail concerning the puppy fraternity was the non-winners and this result was a triumph for patience as Hunter’s Dale on only his third completion of a trail, and having spent most of his trailing either ‘coming back’ or getting lost! ,dead heated with the fast finisher Superstition, a Green and Laidler partnership made in heaven!.Hard On their Heels was Miterdale Force who incidentally finished in 14th place as well?

The final event ,on a day that was proving to be ‘A Lang un, was again won convincingly by ‘Two Tone ‘ . Chavenel led the race for second just in front of Carrick and Cartier.

Report.

Not many runners but nevertheless an intriguing nights trailing in the Miterdale valley courtesy of the Steele family.

Thirteen seniors faced the starter and all of them were in with a ‘shout’ as they entered the final five minutes. Onto the last meadow and victory for the favourite Galemire Grace seemed assured but she couldn’t contend with the finishing burst of Rooster who ‘got up’ on the line to win by a length ( contrary to what Jim Batty says) with Night Vision and Jazz Singer just behind.

Another’ hat in the ring’, another puzzle to the already unpredictable puppy championship, when course  specialist ‘Daisy Dream ‘was edged out by Jenny’s Delight , who won by a length with Thorn Dancer in third (on holiday in Patterdale).

Maurice Bewley’s MIdnight Show finally got her head in front in the non-winners event and in second ,’Force’ finally getting over the line, much to the relief of Sophie.

Littman was made favourite in the last but drifted in price when someone stated ‘it wont finish’

Well ! if you appear with a minutes lead on the finish -then in my conclusion, you don’t have to finish fast, an amble will do!  and that’s what it did. Da Look was second with the favourite in third place nicely clear of ‘Tommy’ in fourth.

Report. And the first thing you may ask what happened to Prudence . Well ! At the moment all I can say is that she didn’t get to the third road crossing and one opinion was  ‘ bitches problems’. The trail itself gave us a nip and tuck finish in which Try Again prevailed by a head from Another Bay with Barton and Keystone just behind, these four were well clear.

In the junior trail Persian Bay was expected to strengthen her lead in the Championship but at halfway she was reported to be well behind. She made up a lot of ground but couldn’t overhaul Silver Charm who won from a tired Try Time.

In the final event the sheep did their best to upset things but in the end Barncroft Return kept his lead over Flash Dance to win by 5 yards with a similar margin back in third was Silver Lining.

Report. On a fine night you can see Blackpool Tower from the trailfield. Our friends from Dorset and Jersey were much more interested in seeing the hounds running, they were suitable impressed and went away with a lasting impression of our ‘game’. And what an odd one it is – A non-winner wins the pups and the owner chunters about losing his N W tag when the next trail is a non winners.

Paloma Faith won going away from the in form Marlou and Championship contender Huntsman’s Kraka. Now here’s one for you- the first and second in the non-winners are sisters together with the puppy  winner, the winner is part owned by la’al Pat and the second part owned by  ‘yours truly’ .

And in the Seniors which attracted an entry of 28 ( no OM or OR) Marli ,well back at hallway (,just looked at the video and she was last but one), won by five yards from Jenny’s with ‘Jewel ‘a close third.

Report.

In the senior trail, reigning champ and champ elect , Prudence together with Issabella got as far as Millstone Moor ,where after an encounter with some cows were apprehended on the return trail; meanwhile kennel mate Keystone upset the odds when scrambling home from Silver Spangle and Washington, no prizes for guessing the seventh,

The puppy trail and here Persian Bay went clear at the top of the table when she ,after an uphill struggle with Silver Charm, held on for a neck victory with Delta Dawn in third.

Flash Dance aka Silver Wings provided Phil with an overdue win when she got the better  of Silver Lining , that made three seconds in a row for the Dearham kennel and what was second in the last race, another one , Barton beaten by a wayward Another Bay .

When was the last time four trails produced four seconds from one kennel. Three Silvers and a silver coloured one.

Report: A fine sunny day for Eskdale Show (in the next field) .Only one let down the ice cream van ran out of –yes! Ice Cream!

The talking point was , that after catching Huntsmans in her last two wins Les Reid was sacked in favour of somebody much better looking, but He had the last laugh as he had the winner of  the senior maidens with ‘Turbo’.

After that diversion – The senior trail and of the nine runners five came from the Patterdale  kennel of Bland and Barrow+ a Little or two. So it came as no surprise to see them filling the first two positions with Huntsman’s Jewel and Jenny’s Choice- the latter came in front but ‘Jewel’ edged him out to win by a head.

In the senior maidens and unfortunately High Stile was disqualified for interference with Come Home Alfie and this provided Foxparke Turbo with a winning opportunity. This was one of the eleven ‘Foxparke’ kennel runners.

The junior trail, and last week Daisy and Delight made a ‘mess’ of the last road crossing but not yesterday – Daisy Dream winning comfortably from the favourite Marlou with Jenny’s Delight third, these were well clear of the rest.

The restricted trail and this was a crowd pleasing finish involving four hounds- Great Gable came in front with Blueboy, Bedazzled and Rooster close behind. Both Bedazzled and Rooster finished fast to overhaul Blueboy but couldn’t quite make the leader, who is owned and trained by Liz Fisher and Tom Postlethwaite .

In the Veterans -normal service resumed when Da Look took the ‘flag’ with a five length win over much travelled Tiagrees, Cinnabar back in third. The Foxparke kennel was running low ‘only three’ !

Report: The wind blew, top coats were donned, Indian summer? The weather, however contrary, didn’t distract from the trails where another ‘spanner in the works’,, regarded the puppy championship when the Kirkbride junior Bracelet defeated the two Persian Contenders. She came from third to take up the running on the downhill section and held on by a couple of lengths from ‘Bay with sky in third , these three were clear of the field.

In the first event , again three hounds were clear and taking the lead from Marli in the final 20 yards was Galemire Grace who went on to win , little Messy, who was a close third ,dropped tamely away and finished a tired third. In the last it was damn near dark when the hounds finished and a close one it was, Persian Prince snatching the verdict over Jazz Band, who had ;thrown away’ a winning lead, and close up third and fourth were Doll and Sparrowmire Lily.

Report:

A quick return to Loweswater and a difference in the trail times -seniors five minutes and the short trails two minutes faster than Saturday and did it change the results?

Well! in the seniors the same two ,’Jewel and Ted’  came with the same lead ,same result only Ted was a lot closer and catching them ‘the brothers Reid’ . Graham with Ted and Les ,substituting for Jenny, with ‘Jewel’ . Banter on the finish-with the younger one saying ‘ Not you again!’ Another thing about the result was the close resemblance of all six ticketing hounds.

In the pups it was all change and Marlou, who was a close sixth on Saturday and was considered an unlucky loser at kentmere yesterday, came down the hill with a comfortable lead but it was whittled away by produce winner  Remember Me who just failed by half a length with the rest of the ticketing hounds close up.

In the last several hounds were in with a shout but improving from Saturday’s fifth was Liz and Tom’s Great Gable who held off the Dearham pair- Barton and Trooper Thorn.
