Report. Another wet night ,it must have rained on ST Swithin’s day ( 40 days and 40 nights).

The senior trail and the different type of running didn’t deter Prudence who notched up her seventeenth win at the expense of Tommy’s Legacy, who took a tumble in a hidden dip, she won by a length with Another Bay and Aspire close behind.

In the pups the hidden dip claimed two more, Thorn Dancer and Silver Charm, Charm’ recovered well to finish a close second to table leader Persian Bay, as for ‘Dancer ‘ together with Billy Bowe they ran wide in the last two meadows and both threw away a winning chance.

The Maidens and a welcome success for the Satterthwaite kennel with Plan B who ran on well to hold off the challenge of Stand On with the ticketing hounds close up, the dip -well they must have known it was there, they all missed it.!

Nice to see a couple of ‘young uns’ laying the trails- keep it up !

. Report:  A wet,miserable evening at Lamplugh, a small attendance only 44 runners in all and one kennel had 13 of them. In the Seniors the early pace was made by Jenny ‘s Choice but onto the finish and for Celtic Malone ,the longer trail the better, she won with plenty to spare over ‘Denzill’.

In the juniors ‘Kraka’ notched up another victory and goes into second place in the championship. She beat Persian Gold by three lengths with ‘Joe’ in third.

Now I don’t think anybody in trailing will say that Cliff Donaldson doesn’t deserve a win, perhaps except the lone bookie, this was the third winning favourite out of four.as Free Spirit put a wry smile on his face when holding off the fast finishing Dark Mist.

And to add to the bookies misery ,in went Levitate  to win the last by three lengths.

PS.. The wry smile was on Cliffs face not Ians.

Report :  I suppose you could say, the senior hounds and, where was ‘Arnie’. The championship runner up. He eventually turned up just before the pup slip also finishing down the field last seasons pup champion Endure together with Canny  Girl and Langdale Ranger – It was left to course winner Tan Ted who beat look a like Marli by a length with ‘Rascal back in third .

The senior maidens and ‘flip’ 12/1 And not a penny on. Sugar Ray confounded the kennel when he got up on the line to deny Mr Ant by a nose. Lady Helen was a close  third and in a time similar to the seniors.

The Pups and a double was on the cards until a fall put paid to Arizona’s chances, the race was wide open ,the rushes were high and it was follow the leader ,which were litter sisters Lone Rebel and Marlou with Jazz Band in third and the ticketing hounds close up. Billy Bowe was seen to run high on the finish putting him out of contention.

In the Non winners and a  win for Alison Langhorn with Casanova a couple of lengths in front of Sundance.and the favourite Eden Rossi in third.

The last race of a trying afternoon went to the popular undertaker* from Grange Lloyd Saunders and Lou Pounder with Simply Rascal who run rather wide but got up to beat ‘Jewel by a length.

Report. A fine start but a wet finish to the first of the Dearham trail meetings.

The senior hounds and rather a long trail saw the odds on favourite Prudence win easily from Westgate Rose ,JLS had a tussle with Sambuca for third.

In the pups Persian Bay made a welcome return to the winners enclosure when she held off the determined challenge of Santino by half a length, the second to fifth were filled by the ‘Dearham hounds’ with Try Time in sixth.

The open maidens ,and one of the magnificent seven Foxparkes- Yabbadabbadoo fairly romped up the final meadow to beat local ‘Barton, another FP was third  and Hurry On didn’t and only got sixth.

The veterans and a turn around from last week when Da Look got the better of Tagget to win by two lengths back in fifth was another FP  -‘Blackbird’ getting her first ticket since coming back from Ireland.

Extra . A ‘young’ lady appeared on the field. ‘Hello can we help’

I am looking for Bill aka Scrunt, I’m his wife and he has locked me out of the house.

Its a good job the trails weren’t any where else and the key – it’s under a stone!

Report.

Not as warm as Tuesday night but nevertheless still testing conditions. Prudence, favourite to score again ,gave her supporters a  scare at half way when she appeared to ‘down tools’ and gave away plenty of ground. But she recovered and went on to win easily from the ever present Quiet Linnet.

The pup trail and the disappointment was the failure of Tuesdays winner Arizona.

A fast pace was set by the Dearham kennel and together with Persian Bay they drew clear . Silver Charm drew away on the finish from Persian Bay ,who at the moment is having a string of seconds. As for Arizona, no excuses but like ‘Arnie’  I’ll be back.’

Onto the last and Neil Brown’s Titanium ran out a narrow winner from ,once more , the only whistle, Billy’s Sunset Ridge followed in third and fourth by the’ good looking ones’

Report. What a pleasant evening on top of Kirkstone when the sun shines. It must have been warm as the incoming senior trailer had stripped off , mid-sixties and still  as fit as a ‘butchers’. The trails, and yet again another double for the Bland / Barrow Patterdale kennel . The first leg went to lesser light Huntsman’s Jewel who overhauled the luckless Marli in the final stride and in doing so lost her maiden status, Always in the race were third and fourth -Lady Bethan and Capetown.

The second leg went to in form  ‘Kraka’ who held off kennelmate ‘Jenny’s Delight by a neck with Marlou in third -these three were never headed and were well in front of ‘Daisy  ‘in fourth.

In the Restricted trail, and somebody has to win, this time it went to the McArtney’s Night Vision, making the long journey from the west coast ,.He won from the Dawson’s clan Mrs McGregor, ( led all the way} quote Russell’, by three lengths with the ‘ Undertakers ‘ Simply Rascal third.

Report. A warm evening combined with fast open  meadows and consequently some tired hounds. In the seniors , prominent at half way were Prudence, Aspire, Westgate belle , but there wasn’t a great deal between them all but the 34 minute trail proved testing and across the line the reigning champ had a comfortable lead over Aspire who finished well to pass ‘Linnet’.

The pup trail and Dairy Lightning cut out the early pace but on the long finish four were in close contention and an exciting finish was in prospect . The spectators were not disappointed as Arizona fought of the persistent challenge of both ‘Charm’ and ‘Bay’ to gain a narrow victory but the eye catching run of fourth ‘Santino’  was noted .

In the restricted trail,and the usual quiet finish was interrupted by Bill aka Scrunt with Sunset Ridge but it couldn’t peg back Saturdays unlucky veteran , Da Look, who despite having a bleeding tongue ,won easily. By the way the second best looking hound Irish Pride finished third.

Report.: It was a typical Cold Fell evening, the viewing varying throughout the trails from you can just make them out- to where are they- to the sun is shining . Gleaning information from the ‘glasses’ it was Marli in front and so it transpired on the run -in as she showed in front of ‘Malone’, who tracked the leader to the last ten yards where she pounced and won going away. The highlight of the trail was the return of Kenny Routledge’s Galemire Grace, who was making her reappearance after suffering a major setback which nearly ended her career, she finished an excellent third.

The pups and appearing out of the gloom was Daisy and Kraka. These two had a tussle all the way to the line where ‘Kraka ‘ edged in front for a narrow victory ,course winner Marlou was back in third.

Onto the final event and as the gloom persisted ,the hounds were difficult to see, but up popped John and David’s Layla ,who ,after a nip and tuck finish with Mr Ant ,prevailed by a length , and in third, the improving Bedazzled.

Report. What can you say only 18 runners for three trails ;one returned to the start and one wasn’t entered (it might of won). Two out of three favourites- the first Prudence won with plenty in hand the last ‘Cracking’ won by a distance. The pup trail was a dual between Dearham kennel mates Silver Charm and Delta Dawn with the favourite Arizona  a proverbial mile behind .It is a lot of work ,time and effort for just a few runners and spectators and being on the Thursday before the festival, perhaps a change of date?

Report. On a wet ,misty and dismal night there wasn’t a lot to see and the finishes were predictable ,as is often the case at Helton first into the trod ,first home.

As an example the seniors across the first and last road were ‘Wallie’  ‘Razzle’ and ‘Jazz’,’Bethan ‘ and ‘McGregor and that is nearly the finishing order- the pups -a red ‘un followed by a white ‘un followed by a red ‘un.

By the way nice win for John Loan ,who had one of those days at Waberthwaite-forgot to enter,left his bait at home slipped ‘rebel’ in the open pups and ran so far with the lead around his legs.

Encouraging runs  for Bewitched and Bracelet ,second and third, been on the easy list for a while.

The last two were run in the worsening weather and the reporter retired to his car.

Firstly, plaudits to the Whitehaven Area for a well organised,efficiently run trail meeting. Thanks to the farmers ,trailers, raffle sellers entry clerk and the Gateman.If I’ve missed anybody ,Thanks! Oh and the evergreen Ray ( Pepperpot) Mattinson , he’s the one in the video, for everything!

The Dog Produce and speaking from experience, International maiden followed by a narrow defeat in the Dog produce, Les and Jeanette went one better when Remember Me completed the double when he won the Produce in a bunched finish from ‘ second again’ Try Time and Oban Express

Dairy Lightning showed in front from Arizona after failing to negotiate the slight turn, the race opened up and Remember Me although swerving slightly at the tape won by a length. Only last week did I use Les and Jeanette as an example of ‘patience and the backbone of the sport after having three lasts at one meeting. What a difference a day makes?

Onto the opening event and somebody remarked 25 runners and 15 in the last field with a chance what sort of a trail is that–  well the answer is if you’ve got a number of hounds of equal ability on a fresh trail ,what do you expect!  Anyway Huntsman’s Hope ,back from injury, led onto the finish where Try Again took up the mantle but they were both ran out by the fast finishing Overwater Arnie As Emily was at Skelton Show James was in charge and made a good job of it apart from not being photogenic (  no comb). As you can gather from the video and opening statement there were a few hard luck tales and the proverbial blanket covered most of the field.

The Maidens weren’t much different ,coming in a bunch missing the last gap and running a little wide in the last field.  It made no difference to the favourite Tommy’s Legacy,making up for last week, who finished strongly to beat Huntsman’s Jewel and MIckledore, once again they were well bunched and hard luck to some including ‘yours truly’.

The open pups and four hounds neck and neck towards the line . Persian Sky attempting the ‘double’ after the international was thwarted by a narrow margin by the Patterdale pup Jenny’s Delight an excellent third was Lady Anne with Marlou just behind.

Last, but not least’ the Restricted trail and true to form if any hounds will make a ‘pigs ear’ of the finish , these will. N ext to the last field and turning left ( some not all)it looked as if they might go around again. What was in front? I’ll guess ‘Littman maybe not.

That doesn’t detract from a Flawless victory when the Troutbeck bitch got up to deny veteran Tagget, another double with Celtic Ty finishing fast to take third. As with the other trails there were plenty with a chance and hard luck stories will be told but as they say ‘ c’est la vie.
