Report; On a warm sunny day the spectators were treated to some close finishes and on the whole it was a thoroughly enjoyable day.

The senior trail and the champagne stakes went to Patterdale’s Jenny’s Rascal who showed on Low Pike with a nice lead and ,although reduced , she showed on the finish with the lead which was whittled away by Overwater Arnie to a ‘crowd gasping’ neck as they crossed the line. Jenny’s Rose was back in third.

The senior maidens, and on paper Bedazzled although having never run over the course, seemed to be a class above her rivals and so it proved as she won by a considerable distance. Three foxparkes and a miterdale ticketed to make their long journey worth it .

The junior trail , and after scaling at the first wall, seemed to most ‘kenners’ that one had stolen a march but it transpired that some of the hounds were hidden by the bracken, Onto the finish and table leader Huntsman’s Kraka came in front and despite slowing had enough in hand to hold off the challenge of Thorn Dancer with Jenny’s Delight well back in third .

The puppy maidens and they got the start off perfectly and although two minutes slower than their counterparts ran the trail well.  As they showed on the finish four hounds were in contention and getting the honours by a neck was Kendal hound ‘Artist’  from the Reg Smith kennel with Dearham’s Silver Lining second and Superstition five lengths back in third.

And the final event saw the Patterdale kennel of the Bland/ Barrow family complete a treble on the day when Huntsman’s Jewel was a fortunate winner as Overwater Bessie came with an ‘unbeatable’lead only to turn around in the final 100 yards and gift the race to ‘Jewel’. This trail two minutes faster than the juniors shows that experience counts on a difficult trail and plaudits to the hounds who coped well with the finish through the spectators and the paddled trail.
