Report. Grasmere Sports or Show held under the watchful eye of the ‘Lion and the Lamb’ or Helm Crag. The home of the Fell Derby , one of the prestigious events in the calendar, which most followers refuse to attend, why?  perhaps £6 is to expensive , well it should have been £7, some kind hearted person sponsored all to a £1 deduction.

And not without controversary as four hounds descended the fell together , across the main road and onto the sports field where Jenny’s Delight, held off the determined challenge of Overwater Bessy, winning by a head. The Judge, first and second catcher were unamimous in that the right  decision was given contrary to a photo taken from in front of the hounds.

The mornings trailing began with the pups and General James looked an all over certainty , but with a few yards to go dropped his nose allowing Yorkshire Lad to ‘go on’ but the ‘General ‘recovered and won by a head with Manna in third.

The Open Restricted and a minor shock as Remember Me , remember the International and the Dog Produce, put a miserable season behind him when holding off the challenge of Eden Rossi and Menorah. Well done Jeanette and Les, hound trailing stalwarts ,never complaining, well! only about each other, an example others should follow.

Then followed the ‘old timers’ who nearly went the wrong way at the start , you would have thought that they had never run here ,.– Da Look last years winner , once more showed his liking for Grasmere when beating Artisan and ‘Jacob’

Finally thanks to those who stopped behind to search for ‘Mickledore’.

Ps . We sometimes in this sport have to ‘face the music’ but I draw the line when you have to ‘face the book’ for trying to do the honest and right thing.
