A nice day and plenty of runners for the first meeting on the Helton Fell and this was also a preview for the forthcoming May day trails.

Endure established himself as a leading contender for the senior championship when he comprehensively outpointed his field , he and Marli finished well clear and the rest of the runners were well spread out.

The first senior maiden of the season and first and second were kennelmates -Another Bay and Willow Bay from Barrow. These two attracted plenty of support in the market but apparently according to the ‘money’ finished the wrong way around

Notching up win number three in the junior section was Kendal puppy Nikita who came away from the bunch to beat Huntsman’s Major and Broncho, a note here one fell over in the trod when holding every chance of victory- what was it ? and can you be reliant on it next time.

The non- winners and one or two inspired gambles went astray but running in public for only the second time and quietly fancied was the Fletcher, Deacon owned and trained two year old Cotto , who held on from Westgate Autumn and Artemis.

The biggest field of the day was the all-in – 47 went to post and Persian Sky and Little Messy finished well clear of the third Mr Ant.

Statistics- last season the relative times for the trails compared to this season were.

2016 Seniors were 2mins 13 secs faster than the maidens.

The all-in was 1m 25s faster than the non winners and 1m 31s faster than the pups.

2017 the seniors were 2mins 9 secs faster than the maidens and the all-in was 1min 42 secs faster than the non-winners and 1m 51 secs faster than the pups. Timeform!
