Where’,in the history of sporting occasions, have the sponsors been happy with the hospitality provided and seating with a panoramic view of the finish, that is until the hounds appeared and all they could see were backsides” lol.
The senior trail and down on their knees , lungs and voices working overtime were Jonty and family, ” giving it wigan” As Crazy breasted the climb on the finish and outpointed last years winner Silver Dusk.
The senior maidens and once again a bunched finish, single file down into the dip and then fanning out up the climb to the tape. I suppose if there was a fault with the trails is that the hounds bunched up before they showed on the finish. today it was the turn of freshly clipped , Hawkswood to hold the border hound Eagle dude with the warbling ,Ol Blue eyes in third.
The kids were enjoying the painting and crafts , people were reminiscing “the good ol days ” Wendy was posing for photos and the ladies , yes they were queuing for a tinkle
Then the peace was broken, ” There are 16 pups for the puppy trail in alphabetical order-Acorn and last but not least ” Cracking last One, now where else could the last one begin with a C.
Reebok took advantage as jenny’s oracle ran wide and with a lengthening stride (better foot grip?) won by a couple of lengths with Acorn in third.
the puppy maidens and in a word from the owner I’ve brought him along for the ride and to keep my other hound company , but Mick wasn’t aware and after circulating the catchers, his laid-back owner in pursuit and a positive ID from nearby that’s the winner!, put the bookies back in front.
The open restricted and although only five and largely forgotten by most, Arizona produced an electrifying burst up the hill to come from eighth to register his first short trail restricted win and laid at twenties in the latter parts of the race brought a smile to his hard-up connections..
The day was bought to a close with the old-timers and thrilling the crowd with an exciting finish with the ex- border hound Spring Dancer holding off Tommy’s legacy and after toiling around all day with fourteen entries , the Foxparkes were rewarded with third and fourth
