Well done and thanks to the festival committee, as a fellow promoter putting on such an event at a fresh venue is fraught with difficulties and you have to put in a lot of work. So those who are quick to criticise -think twice!
Having said that what about the senior maidens in hindsight the start wasn’t practical but that can be remedied but the result can’t.
The Area committee ,in the circumstances made the right decision and they couldn’t hang about and wait. But,again in hindsight we had two hounds that righted themselves and ran the entire trail in the required time. It was proved that My Way and Come On Alfie were the said hounds and perhaps they could be rewarded in some way ?
The meeting got under way with the puppy maidens and the Simpson’s Kendal hound Venus justified a few Irish wagers . She won by a nose from Billy Bowe with another Kendal hound Artiste a close third.
In the non -winners again there were many in with a chance and it was left to the joint favourites to fight out the finish – Dearham Darren with Delta Dawn and another Kendal hound the Dawson’s Paloma Faith Delta won by a fast diminishing length with the Crowe’s Eshdale Matilda in third
The third trail on the same rag and here Da Look looked to have the race at its mercy after having negotiating the roller coaster before the line, spotted the officials and detoured just enough to let Tagget by for the narrowest of victories for Brian ,Julie ,Graham ,John and Shirley , commiserations to James ( It wasn’t dark enough)
The major trail of the day and there hasn’t been much reporting about the hounds in running ,simply because , they were often that well bunched and kept swopping positions.But in the seniors three hounds stole a march when the leaders ran on. Jenny’s Choice, Langdale Ranger and Jazz Singer and that is how they finished, Jenny had a comfortable lead and the leader of the pack, prolific maiden Tommy’s Legacy.
The junior trail and once again the lead chopped and changed and onto the downhill ,the roller coaster and the 30 yards to the tape ,it was Huntsman’s kraka holding of the challenge of the two Persians and Thorn Dancer by a length and similar . This completed a double for the Patterdale kennel.
The final HTA trail was the highly competitive Restricted trail and for once everybody was shouting, and the loudest , Emily? who coaxed Overwater Bessie over the line to a win over bookie John’s Cartier and the ex- mayors Jimmy Choo. ‘Bessie’s’ 2015 campaign has only just started with her first public run being on June 20th.
It was a long day and veteran judge Tommy Newall had to cope with some close finishes and judge back to tenth so it came to the last and no tenth. So, watch the video and if you have finished tenth then ,if the ‘boys’ haven’t supped it, put a claim in.
