Just a special thanks to Mr and Mrs Conway who came to the rescue of the chairman , who had a puncture on the road over Wrynose and without their help would have been there all night.

Report. A new venue thanks to the Farmer at Bowderdale,. Mr Paul Naylor and you are right in thinking ,is that any relation ? yes! Joss Naylor’s son.

On the slope of the hill, where it is an advantage to have one leg shorter than the other, overlooked by the towering crag of Yewbarrow , overlooking the dark waters of Wastwater.

The seniors, and as they dropped down the trod towards, what can only be described as an unusual finish, I’ve no idea what they were as I was on point duty at the last obstacle. Out of the beck ,up the banking, under the fence ,up the bracken bed and down the finish.  A blind finish of 50 yards and on its own was Huntsman’s Jewel, Ladybird well clear in second place.

In the pups Jenny’s Aura and Overwater Hally finished on their own , ‘Aura winning by ten yards , only seven finished as the remainder struck the senior trail and went for an evening stroll .

The open maidens came in a bunch preceded by a herdwick who led them down the fell and never looked like getting passed, there were plenty in with a shout as they appeared under the fence, and over the wall, but some hounds veered of left and some went right, on reflection perhaps if they hadn’t been exercised  in that direction earlier it might have been different as it was it was left to ‘Alfie’ and Out of the blue to  fight out the finish, the latter getting up on the line to win.

Finally Eight runners in the last and Free Spirit held on to beat Cherish by a yard or two.

In conclusion it would have been better with a more suitable finish but ‘beggars cannot be choosers’ And , anyway, the coffee cake was excellent and a small price to pay for a stiff neck ( looking up all night).
